Annual General Meeting

Meet the Management Committee of 2024/2025

At Keppel Club’s Annual General Meeting at NUSS Guild House on April 29, 2024, President Lai Mun Onn reminded members that Sime course was originally slated to be a public golf course.

Mr Lai said that after the Club’s lease at Bukit Chermin expired in 2021, the Management Committee actively engaged the authorities and was able to secure the concession to operate Sime course on a 60 percent (public) – 40 percent (Keppel Club members) basis. It was the swift action of the leadership and robust constitution of the Club that ensured its continuity from Bukit Chermin.

He added that up till today, 70 percent of our slots were utilised by our Club members and 30 percent by the public. With the impending closure of Marina Bay Golf Course, our public take-up rate should be higher. This would boost our financial position.

“We seek members’ indulgence on this matter. We have to show the Club’s cohesiveness and take care of our members and the public’s interests as well”.

Mr Lai emphasised that with only six years left to the end of the Club’s lease in Sime in 2030, we have to show the authorities that we are doing a good job as a hybrid course so that they would recognise us and allow us to continue to be in the ‘play’.

“Our top priority now is to improve our financial position and to show the authorities that we are managing our hybrid course well so that they would grant us an extension of our lease come 2030 ”.

The meeting was attended by 151 members. Except for the position of Swimming & Entertainment (S&E) Convenor, all the other remaining members of the Management Committee who stood for election were returned unopposed. Mr Bob Wong Soon Heng was elected the new S&E Convenor, replacing Mr Dennis Koh Mui Piak. Mr Lai and Mr Maniam Stacy Anthony were reappointed President and Captain respectively by Chairman Tan Chong Meng, who also appointed Mr Melvin Chia and Mr Ho Vee Leung as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Before taking questions from the floor, Mr Chia and Mr Ho introduced themselves in their roles as members of the Management Committee.

Questions on the operations of Tee Top, the driving range, club transfer fees, golf-related charges and the constitution were raised by some members. The Management Committee addressed these questions and would follow up with whatever actions necessary.

As soon as the meeting was over, members proceeded to the lobby to continue their informal discussions over a buffet dinner.
