President’s Trophy 2023
delivers golfing and culinary excellence

On Dec 10, 2023, Keppel Club hosted this year’s much-anticipated edition of the President’s Trophy. Sime course’s inaugural edition, the games kicked off with a familiar air of excitement and camaraderie.

At 12.05 pm, Club president Lai Mun Onn, along with Secretary Melvin Chia, Treasurer Lim Chin Chuan, and advisor Eddy Ng, took part in the inaugural flight from hole 1. Club Vice-President Eric Tan and the rest of the management committee followed suit. Twenty-three flights were played in total, with 85 club members participating in a day of friendly competition.

The weather, normally erratic around this time of the year, did not rain on Keppel Club’s parade. Without an overbearing sun nor rain clouds on the horizon, the green was clearly donning its Sunday best. Suffice to say, the games proceeded without a hitch.

As the sun began to set on the green, a host of culinary delights awaited participants at Tee Top Restaurant.

A specially curated dining experience courtesy of Executive Chef Raymond Heng and his team, the dinner spread was nothing short of a feast for the senses: A Trio Forest Mushroom Veloute warmed up the palate for succulent cuts of roasted whole black Angus ribeye with marble potato and red wine reduction sauce. Guests favouring a lighter dish found the mouthwatering baked whole Pacific salmon a treat.

The crowd favourite, undoubtedly, was the Nonya-style laksa prepared by Executive Sous-chef Javier Lim — an exquisite blend of flavours that left taste buds tingling with delight.

Adding a melodic touch to the evening was talented three-piece ensemble Platinum Band. Their live music resonated with the crowd, with renditions of popular tunes like “Perfect”, “Tarzan Boy”, and the timeless “Sweet Caroline”. Club members swayed and danced to the beat, turning the dinner into a spontaneous celebration.

The festivities reached a climax with a lucky draw that saw ten winners walking away with coveted prizes. Popular Christmas melodies provided the merry-goers with some festive warmth late into the night, while cheer and laughter lingered in the air.

While this year’s President’s Trophy has drawn to a close, Keppel Club’s unique community spirit and love for friendly competition continues to burn bright. This year’s success promises more spectacular games to come – stay tuned for next year’s edition!
