Keppel Club’s natural canvas deserves much praise, but a different kind of art has become the talk of the town recently.

Trading in powerful swings for beautiful strokes, participants of the Art Escape Workshop held on Dec 3, 2023 flexed their creativity to the themes of “Embracing Diversity” and “Nature and its impact on well-being.”

Members were whisked away into a creative haven set in the Club’s Aerobics Room, and given the finest art materials from Germany and the US to express their inner self. Facilitators Amelia and Joshua created ample space for creative freedom and uplifted the mood with their masterful manipulation of colours.

The workshop kicked off with a glass painting session, followed by a group mural project, before closing with a reflective exercise in art journaling.

The glass painting session, in particular, provided a unique canvas for participants to explore their inner states through abstract act. The translucency of the glass, which provided additional depth to everyone’s artwork, offered a powerful medium for participants to fully express their emotions.

Of course, the highlight of the event was the group mural. Art literally became a larger-than-life experience, and the collaborative project also showed how diverse styles can work harmoniously together to create beautiful art.  

The final act of art journaling was the icing on the cake: a deeply introspective activity that promotes individual exploration after a day of self-discovery and teamwork rounded off the whole experience for participants.

As with any creative endeavour, the workshop also had its fair share of challenges. Time was in short supply for each activity, and participants felt rushed for time; some of the more popular art materials were also quickly depleted. Still, these constraints only compelled participants to push their creativity even further.

As the workshop concluded, participants proudly displayed their individual artworks before gathering round to celebrate the completion of their group mural. Everyone clearly displayed a heightened sense of self-confidence, and there was a palpable sense of happiness in the air.

The workshop’s successful conclusion hints at not only a community of budding artists at Keppel Club, but also how the Club can enrich the lives of members beyond the green. Keppel Club can be a space for all to flourish, and art is but one answer.
