The first-ever combined Fa Cai Game –
an auspicious start to the Year of the Dragon

Drumroll…. for the first-ever combined Fa Cai Game at Keppel Club on Feb 17, 2024. For the very first time in the history of our Club, the popular members-only festive game was opened to public golfers! As always, response to the game was overwhelming; a total of 144 members and guests signed up to play for good luck and an auspicious start to the new year.

There was much excitement in the air, as golfers dressed in auspicious festive colours strolled in to register their participation for the day-long event. At 11.30am sharp, the joyous New Year songs which were playing in the lobby was drowned by deafening sounds of beating drums and clanging cymbals.

Two majestic lions from the award-winning Yi Wei Athletic Association made a grand entrance into the lobby. The festive vibe was contagious and spread all around the Club as the lions, accompanied by the “God of Wealth” went around the restaurant dispensing blessings to all in the Club. Not to be missed out was the annual office blessing  to ensure a smooth operation for Keppel Club. The lions made stops to Tee Top, Beer Garden, the buggy station, the maintenance workshop and various club facilities.

As the clock struck twelve, the lions leapt into more action and showcased their freestyle high pole performance. As the Grand Champion of the 14th Genting World Lion Dance Championship 2023, their performance was nothing short of spectacular.

The performance closed with the presentation of scrolls to Club President Lai Mun Oon, our guest of honour for the Fa Cai Game. A quick buffet running lunch was served to fuel the golfers up before their games.

The excitement heightened as participants got ready to hit the golf course at 1.30pm . Although everyone was here to compete, it was fun and friendship first before competition. Many teams were seen setting friendly bets at the start of the game.

There  was a short passing shower,  but this= did not dampen the spirit of the golfers. Mid-game amidst the laughter and bantering, participants were surprised by a visit from Vice-President Eric Tan, who came bearing treats of iced-cold beer and refreshing 100 plus drinks.

As the sun set, troupes of buggies made a beeline to the Clubhouse; more beers and a sumptuous dinner awaited the happy golfers.

The celebrations continued into the night with live band entertainment and fun games. A special thanks to Vice-Captain Wong Kok Leong who gallantly volunteered to be the emcee for the night. As the night progressed, the fun factor was dialled up further with a lucky draw kept participants on the edge of their seats.

Well, as they said, all good things must come to an end. The participants reluctantly called it a night as the event came to a close. The party may be over, but the celebratory mood certainly lingered long after. Till the next Fa Cai Game in 2025.
